The True Words? she wondered. Raynell had never heard of them. But a shiver of excitement tingled through her. Wesley smiled. “They are words that will change your life . . . if you believe them.” This conversation was only the beginning for a little slave named Raynell. It is hard for her to believe that a Good King wants to adopt her. Even after Raynell enters the palace of the King, the old lies of Dark Voice haunt her. Is she worthy to wear a precious crown when she was once a dirty slave? Raynell has much to learn as she gazes at the other children of the King leave the palace to go on journeys to far off lands. Why do they go? And why, oh why, does her friend Wesley have such beautiful feet?

This book moved me deeply from the first paragraph. Though written for children, the story is ageless and the descriptive writing beautiful. This allegory speaks of the deep longings of a girl, entrapped in slavery, who sees herself as dirty and her heart as bad. She hears the message of a Good King who loves her and has paid the high price for her freedom with the desire to adopt her. Raynell struggles with the idea that someone would actually want her and doesn't feel worthy of the gift her new Papa has bestowed upon her. In her struggle, she must decide whether to listen to the tauntings of Dark Voice or to the True Words the Messenger speaks.
This book has three parts which each end with a short personal note of application from the author. I highly recommend this as a read-aloud book for families!

Raynell Child of the King Nadeen Petersen Michael LaVoy 9780989205009 Books Reviews
As a chaperone at Kids Camp I used this book for story time. The girls (ages 8-11) absolutely loved it and were inspired. Several of them asked me for the title and author so they could get their own copy. Highly recommend!
My daughters and I are thoroughly enjoying this book! They do not want to put it down! This book explains salvation and the lies of the enemy in such a clear and moving way. We have laughed and cried together, it has created some beautiful memories in our hearts. Very glad I bought this book, I highly recommend it for every little girl!
